Ralph Young
MC3 Instructor & Mentor

Ralph Young has dedicated his career to forging bright futures—one weld at a time. As a veteran welding instructor at Des Moines Public Schools’ Central Campus and a proud member of Iron Workers Local 67, Ralph blends deep industry experience with a passion for education. His commitment to training the next generation of builders has impacted thousands of students across Central Iowa, many of whom go on to successful union apprenticeships and careers in the skilled trades.

A former Johnston Community School District teacher and school board member, Ralph has spent decades championing both education and hands-on learning. His legacy includes not only classroom instruction, but also boots-on-the-ground mentorship, often working shoulder-to-shoulder with his former students on major local projects, including the construction of Johnston’s new high school.

Ralph has been recognized at the state level for his excellence in workforce development, including being honored at the “Excellence in Apprenticeship” awards for his extraordinary contributions to youth pre-apprenticeship training.

For Ralph, teaching welding is more than preparing students for a trade. It's about building pride, purpose, and pathways. At Forest Avenue Outreach, we’re honored to collaborate with Ralph as he continues to inspire the Future Builders of Iowa.
